Account Validation
Account validation confirms that a payout method associated with a participant is eligible to receive funds through Commerce Hub for Platforms.
Validation helps ensure that payout information is complete, supported, and can be associated with the participant before funds are disbursed.
Account validation is separate from participant verification. A participant may be onboarded and activated before a payout method is provided. Validation becomes relevant when a participant adds, updates, or uses a payout method to receive funds.
Why Account Validation Matters
Account validation helps platforms:
- Confirm payout method ownership
- Reduce failed or misdirected payouts
- Validate account eligibility
- Support payout activation
- Improve payout reliability
- Reduce operational servicing and exceptions
Only validated payout methods should be used for fund disbursement.
Supported Payout Methods
Commerce Hub supports validation for eligible payout methods associated with participant profiles.
| Account Type | Typical Information |
|---|---|
| Bank Account | Account holder, routing or bank identifier, account number, account type, country |
| Debit Card | Cardholder information, permitted card details, network, country |
| Digital Wallet | Wallet provider, wallet identifier, account holder, required authorization |
Validation requirements may vary depending on the selected payout method.
When Account Validation Occurs
Account validation can occur during onboarding or after onboarding is complete.
Providing payout information is not required to create a participant profile or complete participant onboarding.
Validation is typically performed when a participant:
- Adds a payout method
- Updates an existing payout method
- Requests a payout
- Becomes eligible to receive payouts
Once validated, the payout method remains associated with the participant profile until changed by the participant.
Account Validation Process
Account validation is performed when a participant adds a payout method or updates an existing payout method.

Depending on the payout method and validation results, additional information or supporting documentation may be required before validation can be completed.
Validation Outcomes
Account validation generally results in one of three outcomes.
| Result | Description |
|---|---|
| Verified | Account is eligible for use as a payout destination |
| Additional Review Required | Additional information or documentation is required |
| Validation Failed | Account could not be verified or is not eligible |
Verified payout methods remain associated with the participant profile and can continue receiving funds until modified by the participant.
If account information changes, validation may be repeated.
Additional Review & Remediation
In some situations, automated validation may not be sufficient to confirm account ownership or eligibility.
Additional review may be required when:
- Account ownership cannot be confirmed
- Account information is incomplete
- Required authorizations are missing
- Supporting documentation is required
- Automated validation is unavailable
When validation is unsuccessful, participants may be asked to:
- Correct account information
- Complete authentication or authorization requirements
- Provide ownership evidence
- Select an alternative payout method
- Complete additional validation activities
Do not create duplicate participant profiles or duplicate payout methods while a validation outcome is pending.
Relationship to Participant Verification
Participant verification and account validation are separate processes.
| Process | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Participant Verification | Confirms identity, business information, eligibility, and compliance requirements |
| Account Validation | Confirms a payout method can receive funds and be associated with the participant |
Depending on the onboarding model and business workflow, these processes may occur at different times.
Best Practices
- Collect payout information only when required
- Validate payout methods before releasing funds
- Reuse validated payout methods whenever possible
- Maintain current payout information
- Avoid duplicate payout methods during validation
- Provide clear remediation instructions when additional review is required
- Preserve validation history and audit records
